Background

THE
STORY.

16 years of iteration, overthinking, and waiting.
This is how programleaf came to be.

2011

IT STARTED ON A
UNIVERSITY CAMPUS.

While helping to organize a lecture series, the technical team faced the same headache every time: manually copying lyrics, readings, and notes into presentation software before every service.

A simple desktop tool called ServiceManager was built — in Visual Basic, for Windows. It worked. Perhaps too well. As the needs of weekly services grew, the app kept expanding until it became too complex for the very people who had to use it. That taught a lasting lesson: simplicity matters.

2011 – 2023

THE IDEA
REFUSED TO DIE.

The web happened. Mobile happened. And the project was rebuilt several times under different names.

Each version got closer, but the timing or focus was never quite right. The work would fade into the background for long stretches, only to be revived again when the frustration of outdated programs returned.

2024 – 2025

THE FINAL
LAP.

In 2024, the build began in earnest — fragmented across months, picking up and pausing, but always moving forward. Through 2025 the pieces came together. The scope was kept deliberately narrow. All the unnecessary complexity was stripped away.

2026

IT SHIPPED.

The result is a beautiful, live digital program platform that is effortless for organizers and completely frictionless for guests — no apps to download, no accounts required, just a simple QR code or short link.

programleaf carries the lessons from every earlier version: a deep respect for simplicity, a strong dislike for last-minute stress, and the belief that event programs deserve to be so much better than static PDFs or printed paper.

Thank you for being part of this chapter.
